This past weekend was probably top 5 since I've moved to Philly. Celebrating the belated birthday of Hannah and the pre-birthday of Shawna, my roommates and my friend Mary and I decided to enjoy the nice weather by dabbling in some Center City beer gardens. The process to get there was longer than it ever should have been. Keep in mind we live a short 6 miles from the city, but after our first Uber driver refused to let anyone sit in her front seat, we had to wait for a second driver who didn't believe in the power of air conditioning. The entire ride took about 35 minutes longer than necessary and left us all sober. One beer garden, one drunk pit-stop at five below for derby hats, and a $45 bet on the ponies later, we ended up at a sports bar ready for the Kentucky Derby. As many people as the city of Philadelphia holds, we found ourselves seated at the bar between a group of Bloomsburg students and one of my Tinder matches. After an alcohol-filled few hours, I entered myself in a hat contest on stage next to a woman with an empty bottle of whiskey glued to her hat and a bride wearing a veil. I didn't win the contest, but I would like to think I won Saturday night. A live band, hours of dancing, a slip of my number to the bartender with pretty eyes, and a short uber ride (aka Alex's new man Ethan) and we relocated ourselves back to our classic go-to place, Sona. This is about where Saturday's story ends, mostly because the rest of my night was a slight brown out, but I'm confident that is was as good as the rest of my Saturday was.
On Sunday's we have a weekly tradition (and by tradition I mean we've done it two weeks in a row) but we take a nice leisurely stroll on one of the many walking paths in Manayunk. This week, we diverted a little and did some off-roading and found a massive boulder pile, a shovel that was probably a previous murder weapon, and a homeless hangout by the train tracks. The only thing missing was a dead body and it would've been an episode of one of our murder podcasts. The climax of our adventure in the woods was when Hudson slipped his leash and Shawna had to chase him through weeds, bushes, some poison Ivy, and the rock pile to catch him. Happy Birthday, Shawna! Enjoy your rash and itchy legs.
But now it's back to Monday. Time to catch up on homework, naps, and possibly hit up Indeed for a quick job search.. Maybe someday I'll get a job and then I can change the name of the blog to girl with a job. But for now, I'll enjoy being the girl with no job...
